I knew from the start that I wanted the topic for my zine to be very simple. At first, I was going to make my zine about plants, but ultimately, I decided against that and instead made the topic sharks. My original idea for my zine was to feature sharks that live deeper and deeper in the ocean as the zine progresses. However, after receiving some feedback, I realized that it may be too scientific and really limits the creative possibilities. I decided to not limit myself in what I could do for my zine and scrapped the original idea.
My zine features alternating pages of Illustrator drawings and Photoshop images. In general, all of the illustrator drawings do not have too much meaning to them and are merely cute drawings of sharks that I created. A lot of the photoshop images tell more of a story. My zine does not have an overarching story, rather it has individual stories isolated to separate pages.
The main inspiration for my zine is my love for sharks. This whole project was low-stress and a way for me to have fun with Photoshop and Illustrator. I haven’t done a lot of physical drawing in Adobe Illustrator before. My experience with Illustrator is centered around logo design and graphics. So, it was interesting to use Illustrator in a different way. I have a lot of experience with Photoshop, but I still learned things about it during this project and it was enjoyable and fun to create my own compositions. Overall, I really enjoyed this project, and I am happy with the results.
