About Me
Hello! I’m Jayden (she/they) and I’m a senior studying Creative Technology & Design at the University of Colorado Boulder. I’m a very passionate person who loves gaming, animation, and music. I have always been an artistic individual. While I have tried several different hobbies, drawing is the one that I have always loved above all else. For a long time, I dabbled in traditional mediums like oil paint, colored pencils, and marker. I became very fascinated with digital illustration and began my own personal pursuit around 2016. Currently, my primary art program is Clip Studio Paint EX.
I draw for very personal and therapeutic reasons. I have never taken a formal digital art class. Art is how I express my love for media that I am heavily invested in. I find that passionate artistic projects, such as the game Ori and the Blind Forest or the show Arcane truly inspire me to explore and improve my own artistic style. I also follow several digital artists whose style I admire, and they greatly influence my own work. I am taking my artistic abilities to the next level with my current personal project Monody. Even though my art is very self-indulgent, my skills have improved immensely over the years, and I occasionally take paid orders from clients. Ultimately, my art is about my love and passion for various people, things, and media. I make art for myself and my own satisfaction. If I ever got a career in art, I would want to be a concept designer or a character designer. I am also interested in animation, so I would love to be an animator.
Art is so special to me because it has a human touch. In other words, it's organic and authentic. Even if a piece has a mistake, the mistake is genuine and human. Besides the serious ethical concerns, this is one of the reasons I believe AI generated art will never compare to the art of real artists.
Sharing my art with others is a bit of a struggle for me because I am an extremely reserved and private person. My work must be satisfactory, on my terms, before I share it with other people. Another roadblock I face with being an artist is that I’m very sensitive to criticism. Of course, there is the other side of the coin where I can be very hyper, talkative, and happily share my work with people. I’m generally a very quiet person but I’m very observant. I’m constantly observing the world around me in an effort to improve my art. I find myself studying other artists and their techniques without even realizing it. At the end of the day, I believe that there is always something to learn about the art process and that I can always improve my skills.
